More National Success for Dunmow at Kata Tournament
NATIONAL KATA TOURNAMENT 2016
On 12th March, 15 students from Dunmow Kyokushinkai Karate Club competed in the 2016 British Kyokushinkai National Kata Tournament, which was held in Edgbarrow, Berkshire.
Kata is performed as a set sequence of blocks, strikes, kicks and stances and students are scored by 5 judges on their positions and stances that they adopt in addition to their timing, focus and strength (watch some on our YouTube channel).
The students had been training for 3 months leading to the tournament, sometimes 3 times a week.
Senpai Warren Brown remains the National Champion in the High Grade Veteran Category after successfully defending the title that he won last year and Fynn Clements (age 10) became National Champion in the Junior Green Belt Category.
In addition, Amber Morris (age 17) came 3rd in the Ladies Brown Belt Category and Chloe Slocombe (age 10), made it to three finals in three years, which is an excellent achievement and came 3rd in the junior yellow belt category.
Finally, Kayley Morris (age 15) and Georgia Slocombe (age 14) made it through to the top eight in the Juniors Brown Belt Category.
