| In 2002 Senpai Miguel Fernandez and Lea Howlett
were a part of the BKK squad entered into the 2nd IFK World Knockdown
Championships in Valencia, Spain. Where Senpai Miguel came third
in the heavyweight category, a fantastic achievement for the club
and Miguel and Lea as individuals. (click

Other club members past and present who have had multiple success
in tournaments are; Senpai Dave Barrett, Senpai Debbie Houston,
Senpai Sarah Darken, Senpai Linda Clayden, Senpai Gary Frost, Senpai
John Tickner, Senpai Jacqui Mileham, Emma Nicholls, Martin Rowland,
Frank Schmiedecke, Peter Fach, Stuart Izod, Lisa Bonnar,Katy Rolph
and Chrystelle Badoil.
When the BKK decided to sever links with Japan in 1991, due to
political wranglings within the International Karate Organisation
(IKO), and go out on it's own, Sensei Andrew decided, after much
soul searching, to stick with Hanshi and stay within the BKK.
In 1993 Senpai Andrew passed his 3rd Dan to become Sensei Andrew.
At the same time he was made a grading instructor and was able to
grade his own students up to brown belt.
On April 20th 2002 Sensei Andrew was voted on to the BKK executive
committee.
At the 27th Open Knockdown Tournament on October the 5th, Sensei
Andrew was awarded his 4th Dan by Hanshi Steve Arneil as recogition
of his hard work and comitment to the BKK.
Sensei Andrew is the England clicker and Nihon Shobu coach at senior,
cadet and junior level.
Sensei Andrew still teaches and trains with the same infectious
drive and passion for Karate he has always had, and the club now
has a strong core of black belts instructors each with their own
individual knowledge and experience.
Since it's inception the club has gone from strength to strength
and now boasts ten black belts, numerous champions and a spirit
that is second to none. With a permanent Dojo and the training benefits
that would bring who knows what is possible. The sky's the limit.
